Cutting Lab Turnaround Time
Turnaround time is the number laboratories are judged on. Automated specimen transport attacks the part of TAT that manual couriers make slow and unpredictable — the journey from collection point to bench.
Total turnaround time (TAT) — from sample collection to a reported result — is the metric that defines a laboratory's service. Much of the attention goes to the analytical phase, but a large share of delay and variability lives in the pre-analytical stage: getting the specimen from the ward, clinic or collection point to the lab. That is exactly where transport robots help.
Where manual transport loses time
- Batching. Porters wait to fill a tray, so a sample drawn at 09:05 may not leave until 09:40.
- Variability. Runs depend on staff availability; night and weekend coverage is thinner.
- Rework. Mishandling or temperature excursions can force a re-collection — the worst delay of all.
How robots compress TAT
An autonomous specimen transport robot moves samples on demand and around the clock, so a STAT sample can leave the moment it is scanned. Because routing is automated, urgent samples can be prioritised ahead of routine transport rather than waiting behind a full tray.
Protecting integrity while you go faster

Measuring the gain
